As a former Liberty Science Center Volunteer...

I held two positions: a teen docent in the summer of 2019, and a planetarium volunteer in the fall of 2019 to the early winter of 2020.

As a former teen summer docent, I completed two weeks of basic volunteer training, and in total, six weeks and eight hour days of working the science center's floors. Through managing interactive activities to answering questions about the exhibits, I learned how to communicate science concepts to guests of all backgrounds and ages. By the end of the program, my team and I developed an astronomy-themed, hand-held interactive activity to teach guests about different constellations for future volunteers to carry with them around the floors.

As a former planetarium volunteer, I had the privilege to develop my own program, as the science center was opening up the SOS (Science on a Sphere) to the general public for the first time. The SOS is an spherical screen technology, combining the visuals of four projectors to create a 3D video or image. I used the preset projections provided to the science center to answer the guests' questions about basic astronomy, meteorology, and geology.
